New 5.9 Multi-Pitch Beside Famous Star Chek in Squamish
The fully-bolted, five-pitch Indra's Net 5.9 is bound to become a classic

Squamish has a brand new multi-pitch sport climb, and it’s undoubtably going to become very popular. Located directly to the right of Star Chek 5.9, Indra’s Net is a five-pitch 5.9 that traverses up and right across the Star Chek wall (also known as the Galaxy Wall), high above the rushing waters of the Cheakamus River below. Pitches range in length from 18 to 25 metres, and all are fully bolted. The climb is quite consistent in difficulty, with three pitches of 5.9 and two of 5.8.
The first ascent of Indra’s Net was by legendary Squamish new-router and guidebook author Kevin McLane along with Gavin Tansley and Roxy Bauer in early October 2023. The crowdfunded Sea to Sky Route Development Fund contributed hardware to the project. You can donate to the fund here.
McLane also established the route’s neighbour Star Chek 5.9 back in 1995 with Sig Isaac. In the third pitch, Indra’s Net crosses another of McLane’s routes, Apollo 13, which he established with Joe Turley in 1995. The bottom portion of Indra’s Net can be connected into the upper portion of Apollo 13. For more information on Apollo 13, check out Squamish Sport Climbs by McLane and Nic Vissers.
The approach and return for Indra’s Net is the same as for Star Chek 5.9. For a topo of Indra’s Net and detailed pitch descriptions, see McLane’s posts on Facebook and Instagram embedded below for more information.
