New Bolted Five-Pitch 5.10 in Ontario’s Algoma Region

It's one of many new routes in the rocky area in central Ontario

The Kynoch area north of Iron Bridge continues to provide multi-pitch adventures within a half-day drive of southern Ontario’s major population centres. Although the Eyeball is best known for its intimidating giant routes, several bolted two- and three-pitch 5.10s have also gone in in the last few seasons.

Last weekend, a new route of interest to Ontario climbers, the steep, fully-bolted, five-pitch Bullets Before Breakfast 5.10a was put up by long-time Ontario activists, Reg Smart, John Kaandorp and Gripped’s David Smart.

It’s the first rock route on the 115-metre-high Riverside Rock, and offers a rare, roadside vertical multi-pitch sport-climbing adventure for Ontario climbers. Like many Ontario sites, the area has specific access rules that must be obeyed, see here for more.

A full report on the determined and adventurous crew responsible for these remote crag climbs is coming up in the October issue of Gripped.

Kaandorp, who is an artist, made a beautiful topo and a drawing of Reg Smart on the crux.
