New Hard Route on Castle Mountain

During the summer of 2014, Sam Eastman and Sam Lambert bolted and climbed a new route on Castle Mountain in Banff National Park.

Both climbers helped Sonnie Trotter with Castles in the Sky 5.14a in 2013 and were inspired by the solid dolomite of the mountain.

The result of their hard work is Sam’s Gift 5.13a five pitches.

Located on the east-most buttress of the Castle approach is a long and narrow scree ledge just before the approach for Eisenhower Tower gets to be fourth class. Follow it around to the south and the base of the route. Pitches one and two are 5.12d, pitch three is 5.13a, pitch four is 5.11c and the last pitch is a stout 5.12c.
