New Rockies Multi-Pitch Bolted Moderates Near Nordegg

The Solar Panel has 5.10+ mixed routes up to nine pitches and three-pitch 5.8 bolted lines

A handful of new multi-pitch routes have been climbed up the Solar Panel wall west of Nordegg in central Alberta. The climbs are accessed from the Preskott Creek parking area, the same lot used for the new sport climbing area Little Russia (beta here).

Some of the routes are fully bolted while others are mixed bolts and trad. The routes range from three-pitch 5.8 to nine-pitch 5.10+. The routes were established by the guiding team at Girth Hitch Guiding, where you can find detailed route descriptions here. The first ascent teams included Tim Taylor, Andrew Abel, Nathaniel Johnson and Meghan Calderwood.

AA is a new six-pitch bolted 5.8 that ends with an optional 5.10 finish. Next to it is Voltzwagen, a 115-metre bolted 5.8. Farther to the left is a bigger wall with two bolt/trad line. Energizer Bunny is a 240-metre 5.10+ which “has some super fun long pitches. They feel like they just keep going and going and going.” Batteries Not Included is also a 240-metre 5.10+. See below for photos.
