New Route on Huntington by Mayo and Wharton

Mount Huntington has long been one of the most sought-after alpine peaks in Alaska. Canadians Nick Buda and Bryce Brown recently climbed The Harvard Route and reported great conditions.

Will Mayo posted this on social media on May 12: “Josh Wharton and I climbed a new route on the West Face of Mt. Huntington, the smear in the centre of the image, on May 11, 2014. We climbed the route to the summit, camp to camp, in 13-and-a-half hours.”

The alpine duo named their new route, Scorched Granite, M7.

Alaska has had a number of new routes this spring.

Read Ian Welsted’s report from his expedition, with Darren Vonk and Kris Irwin, into the Revelations Range.

Last summer, Josh Wharton and Rockies-based Jon Walsh made the second ascent of the North Pillar on the North Twin, read about it here.

Wharton and Walsh also climbed Infinite Patience in a day, read about it here.
