New Route on B.C.’s Mystery Mountain
Paul McSorley, Mayan Smith-Gobat and Ines Papert have climbed a new route up the Southwest Buttress of Mount Waddington.
Their new route is an 800-metre 5.11+ WI3 M5 and was climbed in mid-August. Their ascent was not the first attempt at the line.
In Sept. 2011, Jason Kruk and Tony Richardson almost reached the summit ridge before they had to turn around due to conditions. This short video gives a glimpse at the scale and conditions on Waddington.
Mount Waddington has long been called Mystery Mountain and is the highest peak in the Coast Mountains. The 4,019-metre summit rises dramatically from the glaciated terrain around it.
