New Ultralight Crash Pad for Alpine Missions

Watch a short promo vid featuring Carlo Traversi using the new Black Diamond Erratic

Black Diamond has released information about the new lightweight and durable Erratic Crash Pad, which was designed to access remote boulders. It’s made with top-of-the-line shell fabrics and foam, constructed with Dynex grid fabric that has a TPU coating for added water resistance. It weighs 12 pounds and costs $380 USD.

As Black Diamond states, “The corners are reinforced by having extra layers of fabric. Premium bonded foam layup cushions falls and increases water resistance for soggy, early-spring landing zones. The Erratic has a padded and highly adjustable backpack carry system that’s designed for long approaches and heavy loads. This state-of-the-art pad, like all our pads, has an integrated multi-pad carry system.”

We have not tested the pad yet but will be soon, until then enjoy this promotional video featuring Carlo Traversi. “From Yosemite to Switzerland and beyond, Carlo has spent years scouring the forests and alpine in search of untouched boulders,” the description reads. “A first ascentionist to the core, Carlo isn’t afraid to hike miles into the mountains for his next first ascent.”
