On Nov 13, rescue teams found Tomaz Humar’s body at 5600m on Langtang Lirung’s South Face in Nepal. Humar was attempting a new route and was injured during the descent. Suffering from a broken leg and possible internal bleeding, Humar called for help on a satellite phone. Unfortunately, rescue teams were unable to reach him in time. An exceptionally accomplished mountaineer, Humar was best known for his difficult Himalayan ascents including the a Piolet d’Or winning 1996 ascent of Ama Dablam and his 1999 solo ascent of the south wall of Dhaulagiri.
