Canadian Mike Mortimer has been re-elected President of the International Mountaineering and Climbing Federation (UIAA), which is responsible for establishing many climbing safety standards as well as encouraging safety and access in the mountains.

Canadian Mike Mortimer has been re-elected President of the International Mountaineering and Climbing Federation (UIAA), which is responsible for establishing many climbing safety standards as well as encouraging safety and access in the mountains. Founded in 1932, the UIAA now represents 82 member organisations from 57 different countries with almost 1.3 million members. Prior to becoming the UIAA President, Mortimer was the President of the Alpine Club of Canada, served as the Canadian delegate to the UIAA from 1995 and was a member of the UIAA council from 2004 to 2006.
