This weekend Canadian Sean McColl won the World Cup lead climbing competition in Kranj, Slovenia and convincingly proved that he is not only Canada’s best competition climber, but also one of the best competition climbers to ever come out of North America. While McColl has won numerous junior World Cups and podiumed at several World Cup events, this is the first time that he has taken the gold competing as an adult. What perhaps makes McColl unique among many climbers is that he also competes on the World Cup bouldering circuit and earlier this week was crushing the boulders in Switzerland with multiple double-digit ascents including a relatively quick send of a V15. On the rock McColl has redpointed 5.14d routes like Dreamcatcher and Punt X, which when considered with his bouldering and competition accomplishments clearly establishes him as Canada’s top rock climber. Here is some video of McColl redpointing Dreamcatcher and Punt X.
