October 5, 2010 – Woods Repeats Jaws II

During a recent visit to Rumney, Daniel Woods bagged the second ascent of Jaws II 5.15a.

During a recent visit to Rumney, Daniel Woods bagged the second ascent of Jaws II 5.15a. The line was originally climbed by Dave Graham who named and graded the route Jaws 5.14b. Numerous holds broke on subsequent attempts resulting in a much harder climb that was eventually redpointed by Vasya Vorotnikov in 2007. Vorotnikov renamed the route Jaws II and gave it a 5.15a grade. Woods initially felt the route might only be 5.14d, “but after falling off the second crux twice and having to fight in good conditions,” he now feels it may be harder. The climb consists of a short low percentage V12 boulder problem followed by 12d climbing and capped with another low percentage one-move V10.
