Ontario Woman Climbs Everest and Lhotse
Despite the ongoing epics on Everest, Debbie Bulten from Cambridge managed to complete her goal of climbing the Seven Summits
Debbie Bulten has successfully climbed the Seven Summits with her recent ascent of Mount Everest. To top it off, she then climbed Lhotse, becoming the first woman ever to climb both of the mountains within 24 hours.
Bulten, from Cambridge, Ontario, trained for the world’s highest peak by skiing for endless hours at Chicopee Ski Hill not far from her home. Debbie’s husband, Dave Bulten, told CTV, “She communicated just this morning, because there was some worry. I’m so proud of my wife.”
Bulten’s last social media update was on May 16, she said, “Our incredible Sherpa team have stocked Camp 4 with supplies and oxygen, our bodies are acclimatized and ready, the jet stream has moved off and the weather over the next week looks favourable. We’ll leave tonight at 1:00 a.m. to start our summit attempt, which in total should take eight days. This is what the last seven weeks have been leading to.”
Bulten was part of a group of climbers guided by Madison Mountaineering, to see who else summited with the team visit here. It’s been another chaotic season on Everest with at least 12 deaths and several missing climbers. Congratulations to Bulten on a ticking the Seven Summits.
