Patagonia Fitz Clean Up and Some New Routes
Patagonia Vertical is the one-stop shop to find out what’s going on in Patagonia. The season down south has been snowy and windy and many climbers have sat around waiting for a weather window. Recently, Jediah Porter and Jon Arlien did some cleaning on Fitz Roy. They carried down old abandoned ropes and brought most of the junk tat back to El Chalten.
Tomas and Silvestro Franchini, with the help of Mariano Spisso climbed a new route on the southeast face of Cerro Penitentes’ northeast summit between snow storms. And David Bacci, Matteo Bernasconi and Matteo Della Bordella made the first ascent of the east face of Cerro Murallón, a 2,800-metre peak in Los Glaciares National Park. The wall was first attempted in 1999 by Laurence Monnoyeur and Bruno Sourzac but retreated in a storm near the top after difficulties up to M5 A2, see here for more info.
