Pro Skier Andrea Chelleris, 12, Sends Pure Dreaming 5.14d

The young champion switched to training for climbing during Covid

This spring, Italian Andrea Chelleris won gold at the national slalom ski championship. The 12-year-old has now sent his first 5.14d with Pure Dreaming in Arco after less than 20 tries. Pure Dreaming was also recently climbed by Alfredo Webber at 52 years old after 40 tries.

The pro skier had to stop training for slalom due to Covid and decided to take to the home wall. His mom and dad are experienced climbers who got him into the sport at the age of five. By nine years old, Chelleris had sent 5.14a.

Pure Dreaming was bolted by Alfredo Webber in 2017 and first freed by Adam Ondra in 2018. The first five bolts head up Reini’s Vibes 5.14+ before heading straight up 14 intense moves to the final crux at a roof. The final few bolts are climbed through six powerful moves with a swing onto small pockets to a jug.
