Reinhold Messner Coming to Banff Mountain Festival
Messner we'll be debuting a film and doing an interview on stage
Mountaineering legend Reinhold Messner will screen his new film, The Great Peak: 150 Years Climbing History, at the 2019 Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival. Geoff Powter will conduct an on-stage interview with Messner following the screening of the film.
Messner made the first solo ascent of Mount Everest, the first ascent of Everest without supplemental oxygen, along with Peter Habeler, and was the first climber to climb all 14 peaks over 8,000 metres. He was also the first person to cross Antarctica and Greenland with neither snowmobiles nor dog sleds. He later crossed the Gobi Desert alone. He’s published more than 80 books.
Messner is famous for saying, “Mountains are not fair or unfair, they are just dangerous.” He’ll be on stage in Banff on Thurs. Oct. 31.
