Rock Climber Dies in Red Rocks Near Vegas
Few details have been made public. It occurred during another rescue operation on another route

A rock climber died in an accident that took place in Red Rocks over the weekend. Few details are known other than it took place on Community Pillar in Pine Creek.
At the same time as the fatal incident, four climbers on the route Cat in the Hat were in the process of being assisted by Las Vegas search and rescue (LVMPD). The four climbers were uninjured but required some help. However, that’s when the fatal accident took place in view of the climbers on Cat in the Hat.
As LVMPD explained: “The original plan was to assist them [Cat in the Hat climbers] in rappelling the route just incase any other problems occurred but unfortunately the incident occurred across the canyon. That was a tragic event to witness for anyone involved all on its own let alone continuing to need to continue a descent. With that being said, due to that, we needed our climbers to assist over there immediately so we elected to extract the four uninjured climbers via helicopter to expedite that rescue so our team could focus on the other incident.”
There is a thread on Mountain Project that has additional information about the accident, which you can see here. We’ll update the story once officials have released more information.
