Ropes Are Fixed, Everest is Open for 2025
Officials are expecting around 500 climbers attempting Everest this year

The legendary Icefall Doctors, a group of highly trained Nepalese climbers, have completed fixing a route through the Khumbu Icefall and to Everest.
Despite challenging weather conditions, the team placed 2,200 metres of rope in an 18-hour push. “Huge kudos to our Icefall Doctors for their unwavering dedication, strength, and resilience,” said the Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee. “The 2025 Everest season is now officially open, thanks to their hard work.”
Leeladhar Awasthi, director at the Nepal’s department of tourism, has confirmed that 120 people have been granted Everest climbing permits so far in 2025 – 95 men and 25 women. Awasthi said, “Based on bookings from other major operators and our own company, we are expecting more than 500 Everest aspirants this season.”
In 2024, the department issued 421 Everest climbing permits, a decline from 479 the previous year. Around 200 climbers reached the summit last year, supported by more than 600 climbing guides.
