Sasha DiGiulian Sends The Shining Uncut 5.14 in Banff

Sasha DiGiulian has sent The Shining Uncut 5.14a on the east face of Mount Louis in Banff National Park.

DiGiulian climbed The Shining 5.13+ last week, but wanted to return to link the crux pitches into one mega pitch, like first ascenttionist Sonnie Trotter did in 2017.

Wild times up on Mt Louis yesterday, definitely not boring. Way to crush Sash! ?

This is the second ascent of The Shining Uncut, which is one of the three routes in Trotter’s alpine trilogy of the Canadian Rockies.

DiGiulian moved to Alberta for the summer to complete the three routes, which include the 15-pitch War Hammer 5.14a, The Shining Uncut 5.14a and Blue Jeans Direct 5.14a on Yamnuska.

With two down, DiGiulian is on track to become the second person after Trotter to climb the three routes ever and in one season.

“After sending The Shining up Mount Louis last week I had this lingering feeling because I knew my ultimate goal with it was still pending with another visit to the summit,” said DiGiulian.

She thanked fellow Canadian’s Mike Doyle and Peter Hoang for joining her for the send. The three spent Sunday working the route, slept beneath the wall and DiGiulian sent on Monday.
