Search Still on For Missing Climbers in B.C.

The search and rescue teams are reviewing video footage taken in Garibaldi Park, where the climbers were reported to be going

Squamish Search and Rescue (SSAR) have provided a brief update on the status of their efforts to find three climbers who have been missing for over a week. SSAR has been issuing statements about the incident on social media since the search began.

The three climbers left for Atwell Peak in Garibaldi Park on May 31 and have not been heard from since. There have been several storms and reports of avalanches and bad snow conditions. SSAR has used helicopters, drones and avalanche dogs in their search efforts.

“Please know that we haven’t completely stopped searching; but rather have switched tactics due to the dangerous terrain and current conditions,” SSAR said on social media. Since the search has halted, experts have been reviewing video footage taken of the area.

“Once the hazards have resolved from the rapid change from cool to hot we will be afforded further opportunities to search. Safety will always be our top priority and we remain committed to the search,” SSAR said. The identities of the climbers have not been released.
