Sharma and Glowacz Send Into the Light

Chris Sharma and Stefan Glowacz have climbed their project Into the Light, a 13-pitch 5.14a in Oman.

The route climbs the roof of one of the largest cave’s in the world, Majlis al Jinn, The Meeting Place of Genies. To reach the bottom from one of the three holes in the top is a 180-metre free-hanging rappel. The rock is limestone and there is a pitch on the route which was climbed in boots, the “adventure pitch.” Sharma and Glowacz climbed the route in two weeks, working on it everyday.

Climbing in the cave is not allowed and no one can go to attempt the route because of the strict rules in the area, therefore there will be no topo. To gain access to Majlis al Jinn is only allowed after following a strict proposal scenario with the Sultan of Oman. This project was granted permission because Oman’s Ministry of Tourism is trying to increase travelling and climbing, there is plenty of “open” crags ready for climbing in Oman.
