Silver Stag is New Vancouver Island Ice Route

Chris Jensen spotted a soggy wet crag in the Beaufort Range on Vancouver Island a few years ago, after the recent cold snap that hit Vancouver Island and much of the Pacific Northwest, he decided it was time to try his luck.

Roping up with Danny O’Farrell, they approached the area with a 15-kilometre ski in and put up a new 80-metre ice line called Silver Stag WI3+. “The new area holds the potential for multiple new lines ranging from WI2+ to WI5+,” said O’Farrell. A number of other new ice routes have been climbing on Canada’s West Coast this winter. More reports to come.
