Splitter New Patagonia Alpine Routes by Japanese Team

The Japanese team consisting of Takaaki Nagato and Jumbo Katsutaka Yokoyama have climbed two splitter new routes in Patagonia.

According to PlanetMountain.com, the climbers made a fast town-to-town ascent of The Last Gringo Standing and the possible first free ascent at 5.11c. In 2012, Canadian alpinist Carlyle Norman died after a rockfall accident on the route. In 2015, The Banff Centre announced their new Writing Scholarships in Memory of the Adventures of Carlyle Norman.

Takaaki and Jumbo then climbed a new 400-metre 5.12 up the west face of Aguja El Tridente called Knobmania. Over a week later, they climbed Pilar Canino, a 600-metre 5.12 up the west face of Cerro Piergiorigio. For the full story, visit PlanetMountain.com here.
