Squamish 5.13cR Gets First Repeat

Chris Verbeck has climbed one of the Smoke Bluffs' most difficult and run-out trad lines

Chris Verbeck has made the second ascent of The Cedar Prism 5.13cR at the Smoke Bluffs in Squamish. The long-standing crack project was freed by Ben Harnden in 2019.

The route is found between Total Fascination 5.13b and Witch Doctor’s Apprentice 5.9 at Penny Lane. Previous to Harnden, Andrew Boyd had top-ropped it. The Cedar Prism is one of the Bluffs’ most difficult and commiting trad routes.

Verbeck is originally from Colorado and has an impressive list of ascent, from hard bolted routes like the Battle of Evermore 5.14b to speed ascents on El Capitan. He’s also worked as a climbing coach in the U.S.A. and Canada. He’s currently listed as a performance coach and routesetter at Ground Up in Squamish.

Watch Verbeck on The Cedar Prism below in a reel by Fil Jopek and Gabe Lawson, and read about Harnden’s other hard new Squamish trad route that he freed last fall here.
