Steep 5.15a Line of Mono-Pockets Repeated

Tom Bolger has made the second ascent of Maya

Tom Bolger has climbed Maya, a 5.15a that Ramon Julian made the first ascent of in 2016. The steep 40-metre route follows big moves between monos. “What a route,” said Bolger, “an honour to make a repeat.”

Bolger, 35, sent his first 5.14d 12 years ago. Last year, he spent time in Margalef where he established The Journey, his only other 5.15a. The route climbs 18 metres and ends at an anchor, but he bolted another 18 metres above it. Alex Megos climbed the entire route in 12 goes and called it The Full Journey 5.15b.

Bolger was raised in the north of England, where with his dad Justin and at the young age of eight started climbing. He began competing and became the national champion in lead and bouldering numerous times. Bolger then won several medals on the world cup stage. After retiring from comps, he moved to Spain where he’s based now.
