The 2015 Banff Book Festival Finalists Announced

In less than two months, the Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival will take place at The Banff Centre in the Rockies.

While pre-screeners and film jurors work their way through the hundreds of entered videos, the final long-list for the book festival has been announced.

A number of Canadian titles are on the list of highly recommended works. For the category of Mountain and Wilderness Literature – Non-Fiction are David Chaundy-Smart’s book A Youth Wasted Climbing, and Bernadette McDonald’s book Alpine Warriors, were both published by Rocky Mountain Books.

In the Mountaineering Article category is a piece by B.C.-based alpinist and Piolet d’Or winner Ian Welsted called Little Karim, which was published in Gripped’s August issue.

Ojibway writer Richard Wagamese‘s book Medicine Walk is a finalist in the Mountain Fiction and Poetry category.

In the Guidebook category are five finalists, of which is one Canadian title called GeoBackcountry Rogers Pass by Douglas Sproul.

The shortlist of category award winners eligible for the Grand Prize will be announced in October. The Grand Prize will be announced Thurs., Nov. 5 at The Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival.
