The Creeping Unknown is New 5.14d in U.S.A.

Jonathan Siegrist concludes a year of big sends with a stout new sport climb in Nevada

Jonathan Siegrist has made the first ascent of The Creeping Unknown, a 40-metre 5.14d at La Madres in Nevada. Siegrist recently returned from St. Leger where he onsigted 5.14a and climbed a handful of 5.14+.

“It’s a stunning panel of rock with such improbable movement on it. I climbed it to the halfway mark earlier this year for around 8c/+ [5.14b/c] but really I wanted to come back to clean the finish as it makes the most sense as a full line,” Siegrist said on 8a.nu about The Creeping Unknown.

Earlier this year, Siegrist climbed Stoking the Fire 5.15b, Jungle Boogie 5.15a and Back to the Future 5.14d/15a. He’s one of the world’s most accomplished sport climbers with five 5.15b sends to his name and over 20 5.15a’s.

“I’m so stoked on how it turned out,” Siegrist said about The Creeping Unknown. “Aand it was such a great feeling to get it finished before I finally go into some more focused training for winter.” Watch a video of Siegrist climbing in Switzerland in 2014 that was just published online.
