The Remnant in Skaha is Canada’s Newest 5.14+
The project was bolted in 2018 by Sonnie Trotter
Elan Jonas McRae has made the first ascent of a Sonnie Trotter project in Skaha that he is grading low 5.14d or 5.14c and calling The Remnant. The steep and powerful route is a neighbour to the classic The Replicant 5.13d in the Belfry. The Remnant is one of only a few 5.14d routes in Canada, including Dreamcatcher, Bunda de Fora, Forever Expired, Honour and Glory, Kinder Surprise and Iron Butterfly.
“It took two days to bolt and I got in about two solid attempts, but the difficulties were beyond me for such a short visit,” said Trotter in spring 2018 when he bolted the route. Watch Trotter on the project below.
Jonas McRae’s first 5.14d was back in 2016 with a tick of Ciudad de Dios at Santa Linya, Spain. He recently visited the Kelowna Boulderfields and took part in the Rock the Blocs festival where he made his first flash of a V12. For a list of the hardest routes in the world visit here.
