Daniel Rivers Valley

Four climbers have made the first ascent of a 24-pitch VI 5.10 A2 on the Red Alert Wall in Daniels River Valley, B.C. The team included Cameron Jackson, Mike Friesen, Taylor Ramljak, and Carson Wright.

Jackson has completed an in-depth trip report at Big Horn Production that you should check out here. A quick summary of their expedition: 17 days and two pushes to complete the new route; it was the second ascent of the wall; climbing involved slab, slime, dihedrals, vegetation and more; Time is 1,142 metres; and the team thanks Louis Kierstead and Drew Leiterman for help with logistics.

Jackson, Friesen, Ramljak, and Wright dedicated their new route to the late Travis Foster, who, with Leiterman, made the first ascent of the Red Alert Wall in 2017 via Jungle is Massive, a 1,565-metre VI 5.10 A2. Foster wrote about their climb in the 2018 Canadian Alpine Journal, which you can read online here – story is on page 112. Foster concludes it with, “We took nine days to climb this route and another two days to descend. I am under no illusion that this was by any means an impressive ascent, but it sure was a good time. And for two bush-league believers on their first big wall, we certainly impressed ourselves.” Watch a short film by Leiterman about Jungle is Massive here.
