Top Canadian Photographer Paul Bride Joins Instagram

Paul Bride

Paul Bride is a Canadian photographer based in Squamish who has been documenting climbers for years and he just joined Instagram.

His work has appeared in Gripped magazine a number of times since our first issue 20 years ago.

“My photography career began back in 1995 when my girlfriend, and now wife, loaned me a point and shoot camera for a six-month solo trip through Asia,” said Bride.

“Armed with eight rolls of film, I quickly realized I needed a better camera and wanted to keep traveling.”

Photography allows Bride to travel with a purpose. He combines creativity and adventure to take his images to another level.

One of his motivations comes from the loneliness found in some of the most remote places on earth.

“Twenty years later, I’m still on the road but now shoot for some of the top outdoor companies in North America, and I have a way better camera!”

Known to climbers for his amazing images, Bride also works in fine art and owns a gallery in Squamish.

“In a fast paced digital era I have stayed true to my style of shooting in natural light, creating images composed of clean lines and searching out unique locations,” said Bride.

Some of his standout climbing images include Sonnie Trotter on the first free ascent of Cobra Crack 5.14, Jasmin Caton stemming The Shadow 5.13, Jen Olson climbing the steep roof at Haffner Creek and Jon Walsh and Michelle Kadatz climbing in Scotland.
