U.K Climbers Climb 7 Yosemite Big Walls in 7 Days

The two repeated a week-long push that was first accomplished in 2016

U.K. climbers Sean Warren and Pete Whittaker spent some time this fall climbing seven Yosemite big walls in seven days. They climbed routes on El Cap, Leaning Tower, Mt Watkins, Washington Column, Half Dome, Liberty Cap and El Cap Spire.

“It’s funny because this is usually something I’d think of, some random bizarre challenge of endurance,” said Whittaker. “However, it had in fact been done before by Quinn Brett and Josie McKee back in 2016. And the idea to repeat it wasn’t even my idea, it was Sean’s.”

After Brett and McKee finished their 2016 mission, Brett said, “Finished the day on the Southwest Face of Liberty Cap. Waterfalls, spicy first pitch, cool little summit and a great week with an amazing lady. We broke some speed records, overall and female. Laughing was abundant and let’s not forget the support from all friends back at camp.” For a full write-up by Whittaker visit here.

7 walls – 7 days So, the plan was pretty simple. Climb the 7 main big walls in Yosemite in 7 days. 1. El Cap 2. Leaning Tower 3. Mt Watkins 4. Washington Column 5. Half Dome 6. Liberty Cap 7. El Cap Spire It’s funny because this is usually something I’d think of, some random bizarre challenge of endurance. However, it had in fact been done before by Quinn Brett and Josie Mckee back in 2016. And the idea to repeat it wasn’t even my idea, it was Sean’s! Sean is a mate of mine from back in the UK, and when he’s in Yosemite he likes his hammer, his ladders and he’s a wizard with both. I’m sure he’s probably chuckling away to himself when I’m in a tangle of daisy chains and ladders whilst trying to aid through tricky free climbing to be quick on big walls. Anyway, he’s the aid climber, I’m the free climber and together we thought we’d be a good team to undertake this obscure little challenge. There wasn’t a huge amount of planning that went into it, it was more a “go for it, see what happens and hope for the best” type of affair. I mean, we hadn’t even done some of the routes and even some of the buttresses before, so there was bound to be some shenanigans.
