U.S.A. Wins North American Ice Climbing Championships in Canada

It was an exciting few days of competition in Edmonton as veteran climbers from around the world took to the wall

The final round of the UIAA Ice Climbing World Cup season was held in Alberta this past weekend. The event also served as the North American Ice Climbing Championships (NAIC). It was the second time Edmonton hosted a competition, which was organized in collaboration with the Alpine Club of Canada.

Spectators filled the stands as thousands of people watched via the livestream. It was an exciting competition that saw several veteran climbers compete alongside the future climbers of the sport.

U.S.A.’s Keenan Griscom and Shirley Catalina took home the gold medals in the NAIC, while Korean climbers Lee Younggeon and Shin Woonseon won the World Cup golds. Full results for NAIC women here, NAIC men here, World Cup women here, World Cup men here.

Several Canadians competed in the event, with 2025 Ouray-comp winner Sara Lilley finishing fifth in the NAIC and 16th in the World Cup; and 2025 Festiglace-comp winner Greg Barrett finishing 11th in the NAIC and 32nd in the World Cup. Also on hand was longtime B.C. comp climber Gord McArther who finished seventh in NAIC and 24th in the World Cup. The highest ranking Canadian male in both events was Tyler Howe, and for women it was Lilley.
