Vikki Weldon Sends Millennium in Maple Canyon
On a steep wall in Maple Canyon , Utah, youngest sibling of the Weldon trio ticks a hard route
Canadian Vikki Weldon has sent Millennium, 5.13d, in Maple Canyon. It is her fourth send at the grade. The route was originally graded 5.14a, when Canadian Mike Doyle flashed it in August 2003. Weldon’s older brother Chris and older sister Stacey are accomplished climbers.
Her determination led her to seven consecutive national championship titles and the opportunity to represent Canada at six Youth World Cup events, with her best result placing fifth in Beijing 2006. In the bouldering arena, Vikki has earned three Open National victories and multiple podium finishes.
It took Weldon two weeks of projecting the route. “It’s a pure resistance climb, with big moves, super steep and a hard crux,” she said.
Weldon will be competing at the upcoming Psicobloc, deep water soloing competition, in Utah.
