Wasfia Nazreen, the first Bangladeshi in the world to climb the Seven Summits, is hoping to become the first Bangladeshi to summit K2. Her team will include some of he world’s most famous mountaineers, such as Mingma Tenzi Sherpa, Mingma David Sherpa, Nirmal “Nims” Purja.

Nazreen has reached Skardu in the Gilgit Baltistan of Pakistan as her team is making their way to K2 base camp. They hope to acclimatize by climbing Broad Peak within the next two weeks.

Less than 400 climbers have summited K2 since the first ascent in 1954 by Italians Lino Lacedelli and Achille Compagnoni. Over 350 permits have been issued for K2 summit attempts this season. Nazreen expressed gratitude everyone supporting her on this expedition, saying, “To all of you who have cheered me on, it means a lot and gives me strength even if I may not be able to respond to all. Please continue to keep me in your prayers and positive thoughts.”

Nazreen spent time in the Canadian Rockies while training with Pat Morrow and Sharon Wood for her attempt to complete the Seven Summits back in 2014. Gripped editor Brandon Pullan spent several days with Nazreen during her training.
