On Saturday, Montreal’s newest climbing gym, Bloc Shop, hosted the CEC bouldering nationals qualifications and semi-finals. This is the final stop of the CEC circuit for the year.

All Canadian climbers who aspire to be on the Canadian National team and haven’t yet accumulated the necessary points came to give their best efforts to secure their chance to represent their country on the world cup circuit.

Climbers from all over Canada came to test themselves through three rounds of competition.

Early in the morning, climbers had to test themselves on five very different problems. The usual suspects such as Sean Mccoll, Eric and Elise Sethna, Thomasina Pidgeon were all present but by no means was their spot in semi finals guaranteed. A strong field with many hungry young climbers put up an outstanding fight.

See who made it to the Semis

Sean McColl went into semis in first place, but is heading into finals in second behind American climber Michael O’Rourke who moved up from sixth place.

The competition is to crown Canadian champions but is an open comp to international climbers, which means that the overall winner of the Championships could be from any country. Sebastien Lazure finished the semis in third place.

Elise Sethna finished qualifications in first and kept that place through semis and into finals. B.C.-based Finish climber Maria Celkova climbed very strong and finished in second place and in third is another B.C. climber, Hung Ying Lee.
