Watch Daniel Woods on Box Therapy V16 in Colorado

This fall, Daniel Woods made the first ascent of Box Therapy V16 at Box Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park.

He had to walk over 250 kilometres over a number of days to send the 18-move problem. The first route on the boulder was in 2008 by Tommy Caldwell called Spread Eagle V11. Box Therapy adds a low start to the line.

Box Therapy is Wood’s fourth V16 first ascent and the third in Rocky Mountain National Park. In 2010, he sent Hypnotized Minds on Veritas Boulder and in 2016, he climbed Creature from the Black Lagoon. Few V16 problems have ever been repeated.

“The holds are pretty micro and require a lot of hand strength,” said Woods. “There are limited footholds and most of the feet track the previous hand holds. From the start to the stand start is V14/15 and from the stand onward is V12.”
