Yosemite El Cap Report Comes to an End
Tom Evans started sharing reports from Yosemite Valley in 2007. His informative updates will be missed by climbers around the world
The El Cap Report has been one of the best seasonal blogs in the climbing world since Tom Evans launched it 16 years ago. Evans has documented hundreds of ascents, including many iconic ones such as the first ascent of the Dawn Wall.
On May 15, 2007, Evans launched the El Cap Report with, “This report is an idea I had that resulted from so many people asking me, ‘What is going on El Cap these days?’… So I am going to try to write some of what I see.” Since then, he’s written nearly 900 posts, all of which include his high quality photographs.
This week, Evans wrote on social media, “This is the last report I will be doing and this closes out my years as your faithful reporter here in Yosemite. I do plan on coming back from time to time just to shoot some photographs but not like in the past.” He included a link to his final El Cap Report, read it here.
In 2015, we talked to Evans after Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson climbed the Dawn Wall he told us, “I think these retirement years have been the best years of my life. I can tell you that life goes by really fast, so live it or it will live you.” Read the full interview here. A big thanks to Tom for the many years of dedicated reporting.
