Yosemite Gets New EV Charging Outpost
Rivian has opened a new lounge in an old gas station close to Yosemite National Park
Electric vehicle maker Rivian has just opened its first charging rest stop, and it’s called the Rivian Yosemite Charging Outpost. It has a small library, restrooms, a lounge, coffee and more. Anyone can use the lounge, but only Rivian owners can charge their vehicles there.
The charging station is located in an old gas station found in Groveland near the park’s west entrance. It will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., while the chargers and restrooms will be open 24/7. Rivian already has nearly 60 Waypoint charging sites near Yosemite, but this is the first time they’ve opened a lounge space.
Rivian says it has plans to open more charging outposts “around national parks and other high-traffic areas across the country.” It has solar panels and an environmentally friendly cooling system. Over the next few years, Rivian is hoping to have 3,500 fast chargers at around 600 sites in Canada and the U.S.A.
Rivian was founded in 2009 and over the past 15 years has become one of North America’s most successful EV companies.
