Everest first ascent: 61st Anniversary
First ascent on this day, 1953 of Mount Everest (Chomolungma, Sagarmatha, 8,848 m) by the famous climbers Edmund Hillary from New Zealand and the Indian Sherpa climber Tenzing Norgay. The British team was led by John Hunt.
