Gord McArthur Makes Semis at Swiss Ice World Cup

B.C. ice competitor Gord McArthur had retired from the Ice Climbing World Cup, dismantled his training wall and was planning on hanging up the tools, when he decided that he’d give it one more go.

McArthur is now heading into semi-finals at the Saas-Fee World Cup, a personal best for him. Follow results here.

Canada has a stacked team this year for the Ice World Cups and we might just see a podium finish at one of this year’s events. Good luck in semis, Gord!

Words cant describe this moment. I've been coming to this competition in Switzerland for 8 years. It's been a long road. But today…I had several personal bests, topping both my qualifier routes. I've never done this before at this venue; thinking I was cursed here. But the curse is over. With a buzzer beater climb on my first route, and then my second climb I felt really confident. 8 years…and I finally "climbed".
