IFSC World Cup 2016: Sean McColl Advances to Semis at Villars Lead

Like a few days ago in Chamonix, Sean McColl has advanced to Semis at the first Villars World Cup. Other Canadians who competed include Becca Frangos, Annie Chouinard, Elan Jonas McRae, Nathan Smith, Matt Wellington and Rahul Sapra. This is the first time the IFSC has scheduled World Cups only three days apart.

Villars, Switzerland, is a small village in the heart of the Vaud Alps, only 80 kilometers from the previous World Cup in Chamonix, France. In Lead, the young Janja Garnbret of Slovenia will protect her first-place ranking from seasoned Lead athletes Jain Kim of Korea and Anak Verhoeven of Belgium. Verhoeven calmly collected a top in the Finals on Tuesday, and only missed Gold due to a countback to the Semi-Finals which Garnbret won. For the men, Domen Skofic continues to make his presence known on the circuit. He wowed the French crowd at the first Lead World Cup of the season, but the young Slovenian will have to contend with seasoned IFSC athletes Stefano Ghisolfi of Italy and Jakob Schubert of Austria who also impressed in Chamonix.

The first Canadian is on the wall! Annie Chouinard. #ifscwc #allezcanada
