Korouoma Ice

Korouoma is a 130 m deep canyon that stretches for 30 km in Posio, Finland. At the bottom of the canyon is the Korojoki River, a popular fishing area in summer. In winter, the walls of the canyon freeze and climbers travel from all over Europe to climb them.

There are over a dozen climbs from WI3 to WI6. The most climbed route is Brown River WI5, 60 m, which is visible from the camping place at the bottom of Korouoma. Farther up stream is Mammoth WI3, Charlie WI4, Way of the Wind WI4, Northern Lights WI3+, and Monk Cave WI6.

Getting there

If you’re arriving outside Finland, the two closest air fields are in Rovaniemi and Kuusamo, about 100 km from Korouoma.

Accommodation

There are government owned cottages for rent. There is a camping ground close to the falls, only a few hundred metres away from Brown River. You can find more information and book accommodations online at Villi Pohjola.
