New Book on Quebec’s Rock and Ice Climbing History

The Book Roche, Glace et fleurdelisé by Hugo Drouin details the history of Quebec’s rock and ice climbing.

Author Drouin has been working on it for several years and it will be published in March 2018.

From modest beginnings in Val-David in 1928 to the first free ascent of la Zébrée 5.14 in 2004, climbing has progressed dramatically in Quebec.

From daring and historic firsts in the Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Rivière-Malbaie et sur les flancs vertigineux and Cap Trinité, to the development of sports climbing and winter mixed climbing, this book details the most important moments in the province’s vertical history.

Hugo Drouin is an experienced climber from the Quebec City region. His passion for traditional climbing and the opening of new routes led him to take an interest in the history of climbing in Quebec.
