New Hut in the Alps is Humble Tribute to Late Climber
For centuries, European climbers have taken pride in their mountain refuges and now there is a new tiny hut in the built in memory of a young Italian mountaineer.
When the late Italian climber died during an ice climbing accident, at only 34 years of age, his family paid tribute to him with a new refuge for other mountain-lovers to enjoy. The hut is a strong and humble shelter with stunning views from the top of the world.
The prefab, A-frame shelter sits at 2,500 metres on Foronon del Buinz Mountain in the Julian Alps.
The hut was completed in one day, designed by Giovanni Pesamosca and built by mountian rescue volunteers.
The hut sits high above the valley and the pieces were flown in over 18 helicopter trips. Once on site, 12 people pieced 52-square-foot hut together. It has machined wooden panels and three trusses built on six concrete columns.
