KTUU news reported, “Troopers called the 11th Air Force’s Rescue Coordination Center for assistance, due to the difficult terrain. An Air National Guard HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter arrived from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage to recover Marshall’s body, which was sent to the state medical examiner’s office.”

Marshall worked at the Mountain Shop in Portland. The Mountain Shop wrote on their Facebook page, “It is with great sorrow that we announce we have lost one of our own: Dasan Marshall, one of the most amazing adventurers, mountaineers, and people that we have ever had the honor to call part of the Mountain Shop family. He passed away yesterday, doing what he loved most. In this time of loss, we are thankful for that thought.

“Dasan was happiest in the mountains. You could tell by his contagious smile, the way his eyes wrinkled at the corners, and his laugh could be heard for miles. His love for the mountains was shared by all who ventured with him. How could it not? He was a leader, a quick friend, a kind soul, and more than a little quirky. He is loved by all who knew him.

“Dasan, we already miss you so much.”
