Ski Champ Nadine Wallner Sends Prinzip Hoffnung 5.14R
Freeride world champion skier in 2013/14 and climber Nadine Wallner has sent Prinzip Hoffnung, a spicy 5.14 trad route in her home country of Austria. The first ascent of the route located Bürser Platte in Vorarlberg was by Beat Kammerlander in 2009. He graded it 8b/8b+, E9-E10, which is more/less 5.14R.
In her childhood years, Wallner honed her skiing skills as an alpine racer, but her father, a local mountain guide, took her out into the backcountry and set the tone for the years to come. She is a certified Austrian Ski Instructor, won her first freeride competition in 2011 and went on to win the Freeride World Qualifier events in Nendaz and at the Kitzsteinhorn 2012.
Wallner, 29, is the second woman to send Prinzip Hoffnung after Babsi Zanger back in 2014 and she only started climbing four years ago. She sent her first 5.13 in early 2018 and first 5.14 earlier this year. This was Wallner’s first trad climb.
