Throwback to Squamish ‘Solo’ With a Big Net

Ten years ago, Matt Maddaloni rigged a big net under the Cacodemon Boulder in Squamish and tried to climb the steep Young Blood 5.13a without a rope.
Maddaloni was inspired after a few recent trips to Southeast Asia for deep water soloing.
While Maddaloni doesn’t pull the lip onto the slab in the video, he does take the fall to the suspended mesh.
Rigging a net beneath a climb has been done many times around the world, but the trend has not caught on. Looks fun!
