Top Climber Greg Boswell’s Tips to Prepare for Winter Climbing

Staying fit and focused helps Boswell to be one of the best winter climbers in the world

Greg Boswell takes us through his tips for getting ready for winter climbing. He discusses the importance of circuit training and gives some advice on how to vary your training.

Boswell is one of the U.K.’s top winter climbers with hard first ascents around the world. A few years ago, he and Nick Bullock were attacked by a grizzly bear when approaching an ice route in the Canadian Rockies. They managed to fight it off, but Boswell was bit in the leg.

Last month, he and Guy Robertson made the first ascent of Local Hero VIII 9 on An Teallach in Scotland. Boswell said after their new route, “The route was named in memory of our friend and a personal hero, Martin Moran, who had pioneered many of his own masterpieces in the very same area.”
