Dan Beland made the first ascent of a steep new 5.13b on the Water Wall in the popular Grotto Canyon near Canmore in May 2019. The wall is one of the most historic sport climbing crags in the Rockies, at one time have deep pockets drilled into the rock as holds.
First Offence starts up the first four bolts of Crimes of Passion 5.12d before heading right into Vapour Trails with a new bolt added to protect the undercling climbing. “This gives mortals a chance to climb on the fairly good top half of Vapour Trails that otherwise never gets any traffic,” said Beland. I haven’t been doing much climbing lately which means lots of looking through old climbing photos. Here’s a cool one by @kimstagraham.mcg from 2015 at Acephale in Canmore. I believe this is “Fully Jingus”, 5.13+ which is an extension to a very cool 5.12d called “Jingus Americanus”. . I’m hoping to spend more time in the Bow Valley this summer. The amount of hard sport climbing there is unparalleled in Canada. . #getstokedforsummer #betterstarttraining #bowvalley #acephale @climbcragx @butoracanada @petzl_official
