Watch Six Big Rock Climbing Falls

Your weekly dose of edge-of-your-seat whipper action

You can go your entire rock climbing life without taking a whipper if you’re careful enough, but more times than not you’ll run into a crux where falling is inevitable.

Below are six rock climbing falls that luckily didn’t end too badly. Follow Whipper on Instagram for more big falls.

Whipper #1

A climber gets short-roped and falls clipping the second bolt. Don’t be afraid to stick-clip the first few bolts if the route has a low crux. No shame in staying safe.

Whipper #2

Not whipper, but a big fall from a boulderer at Flock Hill, New Zealand, who almost sticks this famous move.

Whipper #3

The rope goes behind the climber’s leg, and he flips in an awkward way. Keep the rope in front of your legs.

Whipper #4

A trad climber takes a fall pulling a roof, but he protected it with two solid pieces so he was all good.

Whipper #5

A big move that didn’t work out is followed by a funky whipper. Remember to always wear a helmet.

Whipper #6

Not technically a whipper, but some great footage of Chris Sharma falling from Es Pontas.
