Stoked at Home: Vikki Weldon on Howe Sound Trad

Weldon makes quick work of The Whale Vein above the Howe Sound

The Arc’teryx Climbing Academy took place in Squamish last summer and top Canadian climber Vikki Weldon spent some of the festival sampling the amazing oceanside granite above the Howe Sound.

In the below clip, Weldon climbs The Whale Vein 5.11d, one of many routes established by her brother, Chris, over the past few years from his boat The Sea Flea.

“I started climbing when I was about eight years old, following in the footsteps of my older siblings,” said Weldon. “What started out as tumbling around in the climbing cave of the Calgary Climbing Centre in my water shoes has turned into a full blown love affair and life long passion for the sport.”
